  • 0000 June 10, 1955 - "First Spanish-language TV Station Goes on Air" In San Antonio, Texas, KCOR went on air, becoming the first Spanish-language television station in the country. The station, which is now known as KWEX, was originally named after Raoul Cortez, the owner of the station. KCOR was also the first Spanish-language commercial station in the U.S., as well as the first station in south Texas to broadcast on the UHF band.
